Abstract: Galantamine, currently used in Alzheimer’s patients, has shownneuroprotection in hippocampal slices subjected to oxygen-glucose deprivation. Here, we present an in vivo study to eval-uate the potential neuroprotective effects of galantamine in atransient global cerebral ischemia model in gerbils. Three treatment protocols were used. In the pretreatment protocol, gerbils were treated before ischemia and for 3 consecutive days there-after. Abstract: The N-methyl-D-aspartate type of glutamate receptor(NMDAR) plays key roles in neuronal plasticity, learning and memory in the central nervous system,fundamentally due to its high Ca2þpermeability. However, inappropriate activation of the NMDAR isinvolved in the etiology of several human diseases. Particularly, overstimulation of the NMDARs by agonists can induce excitotoxic cell death and contribute to neuronal degeneration in different disorders, including acute insults such as hypoxia.

Abstract: Vestibular schwannomas (VSs) are common benign tumors accounting for 8Y10% of intracranial tumors and about 80% of cerebellopontine tumors. Histologically, VSs arise from the sheath of the eight nerve. These tumors generally grow slowly, causing minimal symptoms at the time of diagnosis. The growth rate of VS is known to be extremely variable, with most tumors showing slow growth for many years.
