Abstract: The molecular changes involved in the pathogenesisof vestibular schwannoma (VS) have been studied inpast years. Most studies have focused on the moleculargenetic analysis of the NF2gene. Inactivation of merlin, the product of the NF2tumor suppressor gene, is responsible for VS development both in sporadic and bilateralcases. Epigenetic changes have also been described in several genes, some of them with clinical implicationson VS behavior.
